Dropbox - Dropbox is easily the most talked-about storage option on the tech blogs I follow. Its biggest strength is its simplicity. Dropbox installs a folder on your computer that instantly syncs the files it contains to a web server. Also, if you have dropbox installed on another computer, it will automatically sync your file to that dropbox folder on that computer as well. I'm not able to install dropbox at my school, but I am able to logon on to the website and gain access to any files. There is also a free iPhone application that you can use to view most files and email those files to others when you are away from a traditional computer.
Evernote - Evernote is more complicated, but it is the only free cloud-based storage service that I ended up paying for to go premium. I love its ability to tag the files you upload or save to Evernote. There are also many extensions with Firefox to easily save any article you've read (shareaholic or Evernote web clipper). There is a desktop application to help you organize your notes. You can also create "notebooks" that you can share with others so that they can upload to your collection. One feature I use frequently with Evernote is that I can take a picture of a book I'm reading if there's a particular quotation I'm interested in. Evernote is able to scan pictures for text and then recognize it. This becomes useful when I'm searching for a quotation from a novel. I don't have to search for the picture; I can search for words I remember in the quotation. Evernote is also integrated with many other iPhone applications like FastFinga or JotNot. You can take pictures as notes, record sound clips, or simply write out a note to remember for later.
SkyDrive - SkyDrive doesn't get a lot of attention. It doesn't automatically sync files and can only be added to your windows explorer through a plugin called SkyDrive Explorer (it appears they've changed this), but out of all the cloud-based storage options SkyDrive offers the most free space. At 25GB of free space, you'd be hard pressed to need more for the typical files you'd need access to.
